"COMMON GROUND" addresses the multiplicity of crises and focuses on spatial displacement - through military conflicts, environmental disasters – and property relations. It raises questions about the interconnectedness of space, displacement and property, and uses the example of private rooms in Berlin to demonstrate expropriation and collective decision-making as a possible solution strategy. The installation uses the synergistic potential of data-driven simulation and visual narration to explore the complexity of crises related to urban housing and displacement and to illustrate the transformative possibilities of community ownership and collective action.
Visitors can use an interactive simulation interface to explore various strategies for making space available to people affected by crises. At the same time, a parallel video work addresses various forms of crisis and links them to urban living space. This installation has been exhibited at Ars Electronica 2024.
